The EWI Quartet presents a repertoire of music inspired by artists who often refuse to acknowledge boundaries between genres. Performing compositions from artists like Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny, Tom Harrell and Herbie Hancock, as well as their own compositions, the EWI Quartet explores improvisational music using a variety of styles, tempos and moods as their backdrop. Each member of the group - Eric Lechliter on trumpet and EWI, Mike Sharfe on acoustic and electric basses, George Simon on guitar, and Phil Tipton on drums - is solidly established in the Cincinnati music scene, and brings his unique style and voice. As a unit, the group creates energy, motion and intrigue as the melodies bounce from one instrument to the next. The sounds of the guitar and bass juxtaposed to the EWI, the electronic wind instrument, create a musical conversation that sounds both retro and modern, unique and familiar.
